Towering Tribute Talk, Free
One of the largest works of art Grant Wood created is the Veterans Memorial Window at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Cedar Rapids. Standing at 24 feet high and 20 feet wide, the stained glass window depicts six life-size veterans in their respective uniforms. While the window is viewable anytime during the Coliseum’s normal public hours, this special presentation will include more on the secrets behind the making of the window, photos of some of the models, and the opportunity to view some of the sketches which served as the map for the window’s construction, complete with Grant’s handwritten notations. This program is a collaboration between the CRMA and the Veterans Memorial Commission, brought to you, in part, by support from the sponsors of the CRMA’s exhibition, Thinking Big: Large-Scale Works from the Collection, on view June 8 – September 15, 2024.
Free; open to all ages.
