Presentation and author talk: Grant Wood’s Memorial Masterpiece by Barbara Feller
Feb 13, 2025, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Two years before Grant Wood painted his iconic American Gothic, he began working on a stained-glass window honoring Iowa’s veterans for the newly built Veterans Memorial Building in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Though the artist’s work began in 1928, and the window became one of America’s finest war memorials, this breathtaking piece of art was not dedicated until 1955, 13 full years after the artist’s death.
Grant Wood’s Memorial Masterpiece traces the compelling story of why and how this happened. Author Barbara Feller feels the Memorial Window is Wood’s most important work of art, as it led him to develop the unique Regionalist style for which he is recognized around the world.
