Free Zoom Art Bites with Executive Director Sean Ulmer, "Here’s Looking at You: Grant Wood’s Portraits"
Apr 7, 2021, 12:15 PM – 1:15 PM
While people may be familiar with Grant Wood’s paintings of the rolling hills of Iowa, he also painted an important series of portraits in the later 1920s and early 1930s. These portraits were critical to his development as an artist and continued beyond his creation of American Gothic, itself a portrait-based work. When one looks closely at the entire output of Wood’s work, from youthful drawings to paintings in his mature style, one can see that figurative works—and portraits in particular—were important and ever-present. This Zoom presentation will trace Wood’s career through the lens of portraiture.
