Join Executive Director Sean Ulmer for a Zoom presentation centering around Marvin Cone’s 1920 diary of his trip to Paris. In the summer of 1920, young artists Grant Wood and Marvin Cone journeyed to Paris to see great artistic masterpieces and to make art of their own. Going to Paris was an educational rite of passage for many American artists and Cone and Wood left for the City of Light in early June, returning to Cedar Rapids in late August. During that summer, Marvin Cone kept a meticulous diary. Ulmer will read from that diary, illustrating it with works created by Cone and Wood on that trip. Between Cone’s diary and images of the works the artists created, it will be as if you were there with them!
