Artists have been interested in reflecting environment in their work for hundreds of years. On one level, every depiction of a landscape operates as an analysis of the natural environment. However, several artists have gone beyond this to look critically at man’s relationship to the land as well as the effects of climate change on the world in which we live. Executive Director Sean Ulmer will take a look at selected works on view in the current Work and Society in the 1930s exhibition in relation to the broader corpus of work produced dealing with the environment.
