The female image has beguiled artists for millennia.  From the ancient Egyptian busts of Nefertiti to Leonardo da Vinci’s enigmatic Mona Lisa, artists have attempted to capture the features and personality of female sitters in oils, marble, and every other imaginable media.  Complementing portraits in the exhibitions of work by Diego Lasansky and Auguste Rodin, Ladies of the Club celebrates the female portraits in the CRMA’s collection, from Marvin Cone’s evocative paintings of his wife, Winnifred, to Mauricio Lasansky’s sensitive prints of his wife and daughter Emilia and Maria Jimena to Andy Warhol’s iconic images of the mourning Jackie Kennedy.

This exhibition is made possible by the Hotel-Motel Tax Fund, the Program Grant Fund of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts, members of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, and contributors to the Museum’s Annual Fund.
